The US should use the opportunity, if a large scale conflict breaks out between Georgia and Russia and establish itself as an intermediary between these two countries.
Of course, if possible, the US should do that even before a conflict occurs. Russians quite literally play “intermediary” roles to establish their influence in Georgia, the same should do the US.
Russians use every conflict they can to their advantage, as they regard conflicts as opportunities for themselves, not something, that should be resolved or avoided.
So until there is a stronger go-between in the Caucasus, the conflicts will peridically warm up and cool down, freezing up the situation into a dynamic stalemate.
